Teaching with AI: Seeking Districts to Participate in a Study on AI in Education

The Teaching with AI study is a fully funded opportunity through AIR's AI in Education Network designed to help K–12 districts build educator capacity to use artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and effectively in daily instructional practice. We are seeking medium- to large-size districts (at least 20 elementary and middle schools) interested in deepening teacher learning and use of AI.

Through this study, participating districts and teachers will:

• Engage in AIR-developed professional learning modules focused on AI literacy—what AI is, how it works, and essential safety and ethical considerations. 
• Learn how to integrate AI tools into instructional planning, teaching, and reflection.
• Participate in monthly communities of practice to deepen understanding and receive structured implementation support.  

The study includes a school level randomized controlled design to examine how teachers incorporate AI into their workflows and what supports they need to do so confidently and responsibly.

Within each partner district, participating schools will be randomly assigned to either treatment or control conditions. Treatment schools will receive access to professional learning modules and support during the 2026–2027 school year. Control schools will receive access to the modules after the study ends (by summer 2027).

All participating schools will be asked to participate in the following data collection activities:

• Teacher survey: 15-minute pre- and post-survey;
• Teacher logs: Biweekly teaching activity logs;
• Teacher focus groups: One-hour focus group; and
• Student survey: 15-minute pre- and post-survey.

Participatory Timeline

Start of 2026 school year through end of 2027 school year.

Eligibility Requirements

Teaching with AI is open to medium- to large-size districts (at least 20 elementary and middle schools) interested in deepening teacher learning and use of AI.
