Coherence Counts: Aligned Digital Math Products

The Coherence Counts Project is designed to increase the coherence of digital math products to the Illustrative Mathematics (IM) curriculum and study the impact of those products on teacher and student outcomes. This project is designed to help schools strengthen and extend the math instruction they are already providing. Participating educators will receive access to a high-quality digital math product, implementation support, and opportunities to provide feedback that can help improve resources for middle school math classrooms.

Fall 2026 – June 2027

Eligibility Requirements

Districts with 6-8th grade math teachers using the Illustrative Mathematics (IM) curriculum.

Participation Expectations

Participating districts will use one of two digital math products—MATHia or Snorkl—to complement their existing Illustrative Mathematics (IM) curriculum during the 2026–2027 school year. Districts select the product that best fits their needs.

Teachers will:

Use the selected digital tool as part of regular math instruction;
Participate in brief training and receive ongoing implementation support throughout the school year;
Complete monthly logs documenting their use of the product;
Complete surveys at the beginning, middle and end of the year; and
(Optional) Participate in focus groups to share their perspectives of the product.

Districts and schools will:

Partner with the project team to share existing student assessment data and demographic information using secure data-sharing procedures; and
Support communication and coordination for project activities, including teacher participation and scheduling of feedback opportunities.

Students will:

Use the selected digital product to support their math learning;
Complete a brief survey at the beginning and end of year; and
(Some students) Participate in a focus group, to share their perspectives on the product.

Participation Benefits

Participating teachers will get access to the product for the 2026-27 school year, free of charge, as well as receive training and have access to ongoing support for implementation.

$3,000 to the district for time spent gathering district administrative data and supporting other project activities.
$1,200 to each teacher who uses the product in the 2026-27 school year, for time spent in training, supporting student data collection, and completing logs and surveys.
$50 gift cards to each teacher who participates in a focus group, for their time in the focus group.
$20 gift cards to each student who participates in a focus group, for their time in the focus group.
